Robert Mcgovern, MD

Dr. McGovern is a stereotactic and functional neurosurgeon who specializes in treating patients with epilepsy and in providing deep brain stimulation surgery for relieving symptoms in patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia. As a fellowship-trained epilepsy surgeon, he believes that every patient with epilepsy deserves to be seizure-free. Along with his epilepsy neurology colleagues, he strives to provide a comprehensive surgical evaluation and is passionate about improving the quality of his patients’ lives by eliminating or reducing seizures in every patient he meets. For patients with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia, he believes it is essential to take a thoughtful, careful approach to determine who will benefit most from deep brain stimulation surgery. To do this, he works with neurologists, neuropsychologists, nurses and researchers who all work together as one of only seven NIH-funded Udall Centers of Excellence in Parkinson’s Disease Research in the United States. Ultimately, he is focused on providing all of his patients with comprehensive care that greatly improves their quality of life, regardless of the nature of their disease.
